| ‘iRecycle’ Part of Learning Through Imagination, Exploration |
|
By Steve Kildoo, Executive Director of the Escondido Children's Museum Do you know what to do with your electronic items when you throw them away? Do you know if you should throw them away?
Digital images, a giant “crawl through” battery, a clever pulley system to dispose of small items like batteries and cell phones, and a giant cell phone with pictures under the keys are only part of the learning through fun that children find here at the Museum. Other recent exhibits include “The Fault Zone,” showing geology and earthquake science so children and their families can build their own buildings and knock them down in an earthquake; Astronomy, where children of all ages can rearrange the solar system to suit themselves and look through a telescope at galaxies and nebulas; and, the most popular exhibit in the Museum, our two-story Nature Science Tree House. You can see our themes are about children, learning through play and science. We work hard to provide more than 30 exhibits giving children of all ages a chance to learn about our world through exploration, experimentation and imagination. We also offer a host of programs throughout the year for children to hear trained staff and talented community science collaborative partners talk about special and entertaining natural science topics, often with props and crafts. Come visit us and see our schedule at our website: www.escondidochildrensmuseum.org |
